4 simple self-care habits to add to your routine

self-care Jan 09, 2023

The new year is usually full of resolutions and sweeping life changes, but let's face it Mama, you're tired...and you don't have the time or the energy to overhaul the way you're doing things. And you don't need to! Here we have four simple habits that you can start that will help you take care of yourself—without a major time commitment.

1. Plan a monthly non-dinner date with your spouse

You need some time where you can stop being Mom for a little while and just be your loveable, romantic self—because you've still got it. Going to dinner and movie is getting old (unless that's what you love do to, in which case, keep at it!), but there are so many things you can do at various price points to keep things interesting: popcorn-and-a-movie at home on the couch, skating at your local rink, taking in a comedy show (doesn't have to be a famous comedian to be a great night...even if they're terrible it makes for a funny story), go to a museum, visit the latest pop-up in town or unplug and chat with one another. Planning things can sometimes be daunting, so just spend a few minutes brainstorming date ideas with your partner (simple is better!) and pull them out of a jar every month to see where your adventure is taking you next!

2. Start journaling

Journaling might sound corny or time-consuming, but it really doesn't have to be! The Five Minute Journal, for example, helps you take time to reflect on the things you're grateful for every day. It's proven to help you turn a crappy day into a more positive experience while also giving you some time by yourself to check in with yourself and think about what you really want and what you want to prioritize. And five minute is nothing in the grand scheme of things—we all spend more time than that scrolling social media...give yourself that time back to do something good for you.

3. Have a semi-regular at-home spa day

Taking time away to get pampered at the spa is just not realistic for most people. But if you have the right products on hand at home, it's easy to turn any evening into your home at-home spa. Our friends at Sahajan, whose tagline is "Skincare meets soulcare" have a lineup of products that are safe on skin and backed by science. From skincare to lipcare, masks, haircare and everything in between, they've got you covered. Try a brightening mask in a tub with some bubbly and follow it up with the ritual body oil... your skin will thank you.

4. Book a visit with Dr. Andrea

Dr. Andrea Herschorn works with you to reach your cosmetic goals, helping you achieve a younger, more natural-looking appearance using non-surgical rejuvenation treatments. For mamas who are interested in giving themselves a bit of a refreshed look, a few short minutes of Botox or Dysport injections with Dr. Andrea will give you visibly smoother skin while still maintaining expression and a natural look.
